Process Mining: Making Processes Visible from Event Data

Process mining reconstructs and analyzes processes from digital traces (event logs) in ERP, CRM, or workflow systems—objectively, data-driven, beyond interviews alone.

Discovery, conformance, enhancement

Discovery derives models from logs. Conformance compares live logs to target models. Enhancement improves models or KPIs based on reality. For optimization, mining delivers facts on cycle time, variants, and bottlenecks.

Mining as evidence base (2026 trend)

Industry reports increasingly position mining as the starting point for redesign and agentic initiatives—not intuition. Agents can “reflect” on mining metrics whether their behavior worsens bottlenecks (APM research direction, 2026).

Combining with dialog-based capture

Not every company has clean logs. Hybrid approach: mining where data exists, AI dialog and workshops where processes are still informal—both feed a consolidated BPMN model.

FAQ

What data quality do I need?
At minimum case ID, activity, timestamp. The more consistent the logs, the more meaningful variant and performance analyses.
